Richardson Ground Squirrel Control

Richardson ground squirrels, are a common pest in Alberta and can be quite a nuisance to homeowners. Often found in the rural parts of Calgary and Edmonton, these squirrels can dig extensive burrow systems, which can create hazards for people and pets who may step in a hole and injure themselves. In addition, Richardson ground squirrels can damage crops and gardens, and may attract predators like coyotes and foxes to the area. These squirrels may also carry diseases like tularemia and plague, which can be transmitted to humans through bites or scratches. A fun fact about Richardson ground squirrels is that they are known for a behavior called “plague dancing,” where they stand on their hind legs and bob their heads in response to a perceived threat.
